I’m trying to support more local spots around Northern Ontario—restaurants, trades, even local artisans. But most sites I find don’t feel very “local.” Is there a directory or website that’s actually made for this region and not just a generic listing?

This is super helpful, thanks! I’ve been on the hunt for a better way to find local shops and services without digging through a bunch of sponsored results. I hadn’t heard of that directory before, but it looks like exactly the kind of thing I’ve been needing. Just bookmarked it and I’ll check it out properly after work. Love that it’s actually focused on Northern Ontario. Thanks again for posting this!
Yes! I’ve been trying to shop and hire local more lately too, and I totally get what you mean about those sites that say they’re “local” but then show you stuff two hours away. I stumbled on Local Business Directory while I was looking for a contractor, and I’ve kept it bookmarked ever since. It’s not flashy, but it’s straightforward and super useful. You pick your town, then browse categories—so much easier than trying to dig through review sites or social media threads. I’ve found a roofer, a florist, and even a local candle business that way. There’s something satisfying about knowing you’re keeping your money in the community. Definitely recommend giving it a go if you’re tired of endless scrolling and want something that’s actually made for our region.
